The American Quarter Horse Journal, September 5, 2008 – Reining fans can watch the very first edition of the Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) World Reining Championship, to be held at the Palasturla in Manerbio, Italy, September 11-14, on the event’s new Web site.
The FEI World Reining Championship Web site, www.itrha.com, gives everyone access to watch international reiners compete for the prestigious FEI World Reining Championship gold, silver and bronze medals outside of the FEI World Equestrian Games on its live Web cast. It also provides reining enthusiasts access to the schedule, hotel information and team listings, plus the ability to purchase tickets online.
This world championship brings together 48 of the finest horse-and-rider combinations to compete for the much coveted FEI medals. A total of five continents and 17 countries will be represented including: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Poland, Russia, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands and the United States.
Teams and individuals will compete for a total purse of $100,000. The $70,000 team competition will be held September 11 with more than 20 countries expected to participate. On September 14, the top 20 riders will go head-to-head in a clean-slate $30,000 individual final.
The FEI competition is organized by the Italian Equestrian Sports Federation (FISE), with the technical support of the Italian Reining Horse Association (IRHA). This year, organizers anticipate 20,000 horse enthusiasts to be in attendance to see history in the making with this first-ever event.
