(Lexington, KY) — Web site traffic to bloodhorse.com, the Thoroughbred industry’s leading online site for racing and breeding news and information, increased intensely in the hours immediately following Saturday’s nationally-televised and potentially life-threatening Preakness breakdown by unbeaten Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro, easily surpassing the previous historical record for the ten-year-old Web site. The Web traffic record was short-lived; however, as subsequent traffic to the online site more than doubled the Saturday record on Sunday morning.

“The interest, concern, and compassion for this particular horse is palpable,” noted bloodhorse.com editorial director Ray Paulick. “We have had quite a few extraordinary and uniquely noteworthy news stories on bloodhorse.com over the years, but none of those stories came close to generating the attention that Barbaro’s unfortunate circumstance has. Through the continued timely and professional ‘on the spot’ coverage by our staff and correspondents, bloodhorse.com has clearly established itself as the place to turn for news affecting the Thoroughbred community.”

In addition to public interest regarding Barbaro’s ongoing situation, media interest on the national level is also noticeably high. Bloodhorse.com has been contacted by several major newspapers for additional information, and bloodhorse.com staffers have appeared on National Public Radio (NPR), ESPN Radio, The Radio Factor with Bill O’Reilly and Television Games Network (TVG) since Saturday.

Complete coverage of the Preakness Stakes and the Barbaro breakdown will also appear in the printed version of The Blood-Horse magazine and be available as early as Tuesday, May 23rd. The Blood-Horse is available by subscription and sold at selected newsstands nationwide. To subscribe to The Blood-Horse, or to order a single copy, call toll-free: 1-800-582-5604.
