Amarillo, Texas, April 20, 2006 – A tough trio who have earned early blacktype this season in the Longhorn Futurity (G2) will meet again in the $336,520 Manor Downs Futurity (G1) on Sunday.
The 350-yard contest is American Quarter Horse racingĂ¢â‚¬â„¢s second Grade 1 futurity of the year and will be headlined by Sixes Split Pea, Zoomin For Bux and Okey Dokey Fantasy, who last met in the Longhorn Futurity on March 18.
The Juan Garza-trained Sixes Split Pea (Mr Jess Perry-Moses Pea by Gone To The Man) set the fastest time from the 16 trials to the Manor Downs Futurity when he sped 350 yards in :17.795 to win by 3/4 lengths. He won his Longhorn Futurity trial by a length and then finished third in the 300-yard finals for the Alamo, Texas, partnership of S A Ranch, Ricardo Guerra and Eduardo Gonzalez.
Okey Dokey Fantasy (Okey Dokey Dale Ă¢â‚¬â€œ Fontanas Fantasy by Lazbuddie) edged out runner-up Zoomin For Bux to win the Longhorn by a nose for 19-year-old owner Ariel Campos. He improved his record to a perfect 3-for-3 and his bankroll to $120,499 with his Manor Downs Futurity trial win, which was the eighth-fastest. Trainer Carlos TrulyTruly also will saddle Truley A Natural (Truley First Class Ă¢â‚¬â€œ Nisqually (TB) by LĂ¢â‚¬â„¢Natural (TB)), who posted the seventh fastest qualifying time.
The Jose Garza-owned and -trained Zoomin For Bux (Shazoom-Oh No Its Uh Oh by Jody O Toole) won the unofficial $82,000 Royal Shake Em Futurity on February 5 and finished just a nose behind Okey Dokey Fantasy in the Longhorn Futurity after being sent off as the 5-2 favorite.
Officially, Zoomin For Bux has two wins and a second from three starts and has earned $48,766. He qualified with the second-fastest time to the Manor Downs Futurity with an impressive 1 1/2 lengths trial win. Garza also conditions ninth-fastest qualifier Beaukas (Make It Anywhere Ă¢â‚¬â€œ Beauclare by Coup de Kas (TB)) who broke her maiden in the Manor Downs Futurity trial.
The Manor Downs Futurity (G1) will pay $148,068 to the winner and runs April 23 at TexasĂ¢â‚¬â„¢ oldest pari-mutuel horse track, Manor Downs in Manor, Texas.
