America’s Horse, March 26, 2008 – The world’s largest equine breed registry and a world leader in animal health have joined forces. Merial is now an official partner of the American Quarter Horse Association.
“Merial’s innovative products have been helping American Quarter Horses live healthier lives for many years,” said AQHA Executive Vice President Bill Brewer. “We are pleased to have Merial join our team as a corporate partner.”
Three leading Merial® Brand products were named as official AQHA pharmaceutical products: GASTROGARD® (omeprazole), ULCERGARD® (omeprazole) and EQUIOXX® (firocoxib). GASTROGARD and ULCERGARD are the first and only FDA-approved products for the treatment and prevention of equine stomach ulcers, respectively. EQUIOXX is the first equine oral nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug to be approved in more than 20 years.
“We are proud to sponsor an organization that shares our commitment to excellence in equine health care,” said Dr. Steven P. Lerner, head of Merial’s marketing for the U.S. large animal group. “As a partner, we can better support AQHA members providing quality care for their horses. Our large animal division is as passionate about horses as the AQHA members themselves – this is truly a good match for our organizations.”
As an AQHA Corporate Partner, Merial will be a key player in helping to bring America’s Horse magazine to every AQHA member. Merial also will be the title sponsor of the distaff division of the Bank of America® Racing Challenge. The Merial Distaff Championship will be contested at Evangeline Downs in Louisiana on November 8. Plus, Merial will sponsor the 2008 World Championship Show in Oklahoma City and the 2009 Bayer Select World Championship Show in Amarillo. Also in 2009, Merial will be the title sponsor of the judging contests at the Ford American Quarter Horse Youth Association World Championship Show and the AQHA World Show.
