June 13, 2007—Animal Talk Naturally in conjunction with the American Veterinary Naturopathic Association (AVNA) is pleased to announce the speakers for the first annual Natural Animal World Convention: Inspiring Minds. Empowering Choices. Integrating Ideas., taking place ONLINE September 7 – 9, 2007.
“Our speakers are veterinarians, animal health care providers, published authors, media personalities and in all cases have animal well being and education at the core of their message,” explains Kim Bloomer, President & CEO of Animal Talk Naturally. “We have relied upon their expertise and input as we put our program together and we consider them partners in the success of our convention.”
One such partner is author/artist Ron Hevener, who is presenting a workshop titled, “Animal Husbandry: The Responsibility, The Care, The Art, and The Love.”
Says Hevener, “There is a reason why everything about animal husbandry – from birth, to raising, to showing – is so important. It is the “continuity of life.” Raising animals connects us to the animal world and through this interaction we recognize our potential. We are far, far greater than we are ever taught or allowed to believe. No matter what happens to us, or around us; no matter how frightening or hopeless things appear to be, our animals have a different vision. They continue with life no matter what, as if to say – “Pick yourself up, my friend. You must take care of me. My babies are coming and I need you to be there. We must get on with the show.”It’s not easy for animal lovers to make sense of things that defy our sensibilities. It’s not easy because we’re among the most sensitive and caring people in the world. Yes, we can be “tough.” We can be hateful and
competitive. But, when you chip away the tartar from the teeth, there are some beautiful smiles underneath. Animal husbandry, raising and taking care of animals – is the holy stewardship of life. It is thebringing forth of life, not taking it away.”
The convention, an online education platform, is offering continuing education credits (CEUs) for the three day event and promises to be a bridge not only for natural animal health and welfare; it offers support for the business side of animal caregivers as well.
“The goal of the convention is to provide a broad base of education on natural pet care in a format that allows a large number of our community to participate,” says Bloomer.
Bloomer and business colleague Jeannie Thomason, owner of The Whole Dog, secured the CEUs from the AVNA, a co-founder in the event. “Offering CEUs online is key,” believes Thomason. “Getting credit for attending classes in the convenience of your home or office allows for a more conversational and practical approach in learning new materials in addition to the benefit of networking with other professionals for support and exchange of ideas.”
About Ron Hevener:
Author/Artist Ron Hevener specializes in animals and the romantic, adventurous people who love them. Mr. Hevener owns one of oldest dog show kennels in the U.S. (“Lochranza,” specializing in Collies since 1945). His dog “Kane” (Ch. Amberlyn’s Bright Tribute) was featured in his popular novel “The Blue Ribbon.”
His interest in Arabian horse racing goes back to the early days of Delaware Park, now one of the leading Arabian racetracks in the US. His stallion “Nahgua” (Nugui El Khamsin) was one of the first Arabians to race at Delaware Park and inspired Mr. Hevener’s novel, “Fate of the Stallion.”
Along with racehorses and show dogs, Mr. Hevener’s interest in Greyhounds started with the adoption of a retired racer and led to a full-fledged racing kennel inspiring his novel, “High Stakes.” Today, he owns sons and daughters of major Greyhound racing sires from the US, UK, Ireland and Australia.
An accomplished artist who started by selling handmade souvenirs to tourists at farmers’ markets, Mr. Hevener’s collectible figurines and the prints from his novels are now bought and traded throughout the world. His original paintings and sculptures are sold in galleries, displayed in museums and can be found in many private collections.
Growing up in the farmlands of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Ron Hevener was surrounded by horses, dogs and county fairs. “Along the way, I raised every kind of animal I loved. Even a kid or two, and I don’t mean goats!” he laughs.
Today, Ron Hevener’s illustrated animal stories are published regularly in magazines, newsletters, newspapers and on websites around the globe.
In the early 1970’s, Mr. Hevener studied at the North Museum of Natural History, Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He is a member in good standing of the following organizations:
International Federation of Arabian Horse Racing
United States Equestrian Federation
Arabian Jockey Club

Pennsylvania Arabian Horse Association
Quentin Riding Club
Dog Writers Association of America
American Kennel Club
