FORT WORTH, Texas – APHA Lifetime Leading Sire Zippos Sensation died July 10 at age 23. Simons Show Horses of Aubrey, Texas, owned the 1993 sorrel overo stallion and it was under their guidance that he became a pillar in the Paint Horse industry.
In honor of his substantial legacy to the breed and to support youth scholarships, the Simons family has created an American Paint Horse Foundation endowment. Upon completion, the endowment will support additional scholarship money in Western Pleasure classes at each AjPHA Youth World Championship Show, held in the summer in Fort Worth. Zippos Sensation sired 956 APHA-registered foals—469 of which have established APHA show records. While they have tallied more than 170 world championship and 162 reserve world championships—25 of those honors have been specifically in Western Pleasure.
Zippos Sensation came from Western pleasure royalty. His sire, Zippo Pine Bar was a legendary Western pleasure horse and AQHA Hall of Famer, while his dam, Satin N Lace, was also a star in the Western pleasure constellation. Not only was she a two-time National Champion in halter and an APHA Champion, she was also an honor roll Western pleasure horse as a 3-year-old.
“It is our desire to use this endowment to increase scholarship funding in Western Pleasure at the Youth show,” said Andrea. “Many of his foals have excelled in that discipline and it just seems fitting.”
