Equine dentistry by someone who is not a veterinarian would be allowed under a bill that passed the Senate with amendments on Wednesday.
House Bill 3202 passed the Senate in a vote of 38-7 after nearly 30 minutes of questions and debate. Sen. Mike Schulz, R-Altus, was the author.
The bill is an attempt to end a yearlong feud over who can file a horse’s teeth. The debate has included full-page ads that say drugs used by equine dentists could be used as date rape drugs or to induce abortion. Under current law, a person can’t do dental work on a horse they don’t own without facing criminal charges. Read more:
