Qualifying Points for the 2006 AQHA World Championship Show

Amarillo, Texas, December 27, 2005 – The qualifying season for the 2006 American Quarter Horse Association World Championship Show got underway August 1, and the recommendations for changes in required points have been approved. The 2006 qualifying points will remain the same as in 2005.

“The World Show Committee realizes the expense that goes along with showing and the increased costs exhibitors face due, in part, to rising fuel prices,” said Cam Foreman, AQHA Executive Director of Shows. “Our hope is to keep showing affordable to those who enjoy traveling to various events and control some of the expenses over which we have control.”

AQHA’s in-house World Show Committee uses a formula to determine the qualifying points. The committee then presents the recommendations to AQHA’s Executive Committee for approval. The 2006 qualifying period will run through July 31, 2006. The 2006 World Show will be held November 4 – 18 at State Fair Park in Oklahoma City.

The 2005 World Show had an economic impact of more than $25 million and featured more than 1,900 American Quarter Horses. Entries exceeded 1,100 in amateur competition with more than 1,800 in the open division. This year’s total purse was almost $2.3 million.
