Loxahatchee, FL- August 12, 2010 – In 2007, Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center (VTRC) implemented the Horses for Heroes Program as a way to provide physical therapy to veterans who have served for the United States. Today, that program continues to make strides in the therapeutic riding world. Recently, Program Director Maurette Hanson facilitated a workshop at the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA) Region 5 Conference with Teresa Bennett Pasquale on how to implement an Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy program for survivors of trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
The Horses and Heroes program uses a unique approach through the application of creative arts (horse painting), yoga, and natural horsemanship in a therapeutic way with a strong emphasis on horse/human relationship. Hanson, a NARHA certified riding instructor, and Pasquale, a licensed mental health therapist specializing in trauma and PTSD, instructed others on how to implement similar programs at their Centers.
The program at VTRC is offered at no cost to our veterans. As they embark into their third year, VTRC looks forward to offering this service to the men and women who have so bravely and so proudly served this country. For more details and donation information regarding Horses for Heroes, contact VTRC at 561-792-9900.
