If you have ever used Tanner Time, you are surely one of the barrel racers out there asking why you never have Tanner Time at your barrel races anymore. If you have never used Tanner Time, you might be asking, “What Tanner Time is”? In 1998, Shane and Lanette Pritchard moved to Dallas Texas to work for New Micros, and Randy Dumse, inventor of the Tanner Time system, on the development of the system. In 1999 they moved back to Colorado to be closer to family and started a full time business timing large barrel races all over the country and teaching barrel racing with Lynn and Murray McKenzie.
They then spent the next seven years on the road building Tanner Time into not only a timer, but a complete event management system, and a training tool. It has been used to time barrel races like the NBHA World show, Josey Jr. World, D&G barrel races, Barrel Mania, American West Finals, World Barrel Racing and many larger barrel races nationwide.
Tanner Time started out as a timing machine that could break up your barrel pattern time into seven segments and compare them to the fastest time at a barrel race. Today’s Tanner Time can not only break down your time but, compare your run to the top horses from across the country so that you are able to study and find out how your horse stacks up against the best in the country or your area. You can work on new training styles and find the one that works best for you and your horse according to a scientific system. No more guessing where you are losing your time in your run. You can find it by using the Tanner Time system. They refined the science of barrel racing through insights gained from using Tanner Time comparison reports of the fastest horses in the world, Bozo, Dial A Red Rooster, Hot Shot, Rare Fred, View This Jet, Firewater Fiesta, and so many more.
Providing the first ever Advanced Barrel racing labs, using the McKenzie’s knowledge and Tanner Time, became a way to develop methods to teach barrel racing like it had never been taught before. The labs are three intense days of working with McKenzie’s 25 years of barrel racing experience and the technology of Tanner Time to bring horses and riders together to make the best barrel runs they have ever made. Working with Lynn also demonstrated the value of a good barrel saddle and bit to help your horse be his best. Several years ago they started selling Lynn McKenzie saddles and bits at the barrel races as well as on their website, www.tannertime.com. With the Specialty Tack Store at the Training Center, this has turned into a full time job for Lanette.
So where is Tanner Time now? The Pritchards have installed it at their new Tanner Time Training Center & Specialty Tack store in Rocky Ford, Colorado. After seven years on the road, it was time to stop traveling and use the Tanner Time system and tack trailer to build a business at home in Colorado where riders could come and learn what they have been teaching all over the country as well as continue to advance the science of barrel racing for the next generation.
