Women take lead in vet school ranks

Veterinarians these days administer Prozac, put pets through chemotherapy and dole out vitamins to lengthen an animal’s life.

The profession has largely moved from the diagnostic to the heartfelt, from culling a herd of cattle to holding someone’s hand as they put their dog to sleep.

That nurturing shift has spawned a field that is now dominated by women.
