What is the best training method to get a perfect first barrel turn? And where is the best place to start running to your first barrel (meaning where should your pocket be)? I am having problems designating where to start. I usually run straight across from the third barrel. Should I be starting my run lined out between the third and first barrel?
Dear Anna,
It all depends on the size of the arena and the pattern in the arena as to how you start your run to the first barrel. Also, not every horse can be ridden the same so you have to adjust your course according to your horse. You should always look at the ground where you want your horse to run and ride him forward to that place with your body. I’m sorry I can’t give you more specifics but I would need more information on you and your horse to do that.
