Can bloodlines affect performance?

I got a stallion in Feb and I have been working with him on barrel. He is really good at it so far at a trot. I was wondering if his blood lines can affect his performance. On his dad is Divine Coosa. A halter champion and was named 04 TN stallion champ. His grand dad is Divine Conclusion, and great grand dad is Mr.Conclusion. He isn’t from a barrel racing blood line, so is it wrong to try to get him to do barrel racing.

Erika,

An athlete is an athlete and if your horse is working really good, I would certainly continue to train and work him. Many of the great barrel horses of the past have not had racing bloodlines and we all need to remember that we aren’t running a quarter of a mile when barrel racing. We need horses that are willing to please and that like what they are doing.
