7 year old APHA gelding that loves to run

Dear Martha,
I have a 6 coming 7 year old APHA gelding that loves to run. The former owners of this horse tried wp but could not get him to slow down enough for their taste in the canter area.

He has a great attitude and very willing to please. I exhibitioned him once last year and he turned a time of 17.003 on his first try. I guess what I’m asking is he too old for this sport or can we give a whirl.

I also have an appendix bred quarter filly that will be 3 and will be on the road with us. She has lines back to Zippo Pat Bar and Jet Deck. Her dam was a TB called superstitious lady. I have trained the 6 year old since I have had him as a 3 year old. His mind just now matured enough to try patterns.
Thanks for your help.
Kay

Your horse is certainly not too old to train for barrels and compete on. Go for it and good luck.
