Getting the speed back

hello:

i have a question: i paid alot of money for a horse out of texas around 6 months ago that had a great winning record, etc… anyways, his pattern is great, but the speed is not, we are running in the 3d…. he came from building’s and small patterns to arizona where there is big outdoor and indoor arena’s… is there something i can do as far as getting the speed back? any exercises, etc… he has been to the vet, and everything is fine. thanks so much. i do have your book also.

Have you changed his shoeing – the balance on his foot, different shoes, angles, etc??? That could have something to do with his not running like he was when you got him. Are you feeding him the same feed, supplements, etc??

Did they ever inject this horse and is he now due to be injected (hocks, stifles, ankles, etc) That could also make a difference.

What about equipment? Do you use the same bridle, headgear? Does your saddle fit him correctly?

Have you had bloodwork done on the horse to make sure that he has no low grade infection going on, are his muscle enzymes normal, is his kidney function normal, liver function??? What is his blood count like – low, high?? These are all things that could be affecting his running.
