What would you suggest in a feeding and exercise program

Hello–
I live sw of OKC about 50 miles. I participate in local jackpots, BBR, Central 4D and others.

My horse, Elvin, is now 24 and to me is in great condition. I feed him Senior Feed, crimped oats, red cell, Rocket Booster and some electrolytes. This is twice a day and he gets all the alfalfa hay he wants. He is the only horse I have. I have had him nearly 3 years.
I usually lounge him 3 times a week if I am not hauling him. He LOVES to run barrels and is quiet until time to run.

What would you suggest in a feeding and exercise program that might be better?

M. Scott, 64 years old and loving it!!

It sounds like you and Elvin are doing all the right things to stay healthy and successful. I don’t believe I would change anything about your program if it is working well. In fact, I’m sure that some of these younger barrel racers and their younger horses could take a page from your book and increase their chances for success. A good diet – and it sounds like Elvin has one – as well as a regular exercise program are usually key factors in any successful program. Good luck with your barrel racing.
