TSBRA History
Welcome New and Returning Members: I thought I would let you in on a
little history of TSBRA.
The association started in 1970. Twin States meant to have membership in
Texas and Oklahoma. The first Round-Up was held in Gainesville, Tx, the
winners getting nothing more than a Navajo blanket with letter corner
plates. For some years, this would not change.
TSBRA started in the Denison area and the radius being 100 miles in a
circle from there. This means it would go as far as far north to almost
Oklahoma City and south to almost Cleburne. The All Girl membership
competed for money won at rodeos, jackpots, and even Quarter Horse shows.
The first bulletin had Goat Tying, Poles, Barrels, and even Quarter Horse
Show barrels and poles. Soon the goat tying and the Quarter Horse events
dropped due to lack of participation. This would run for some years with
junior barrels and poles coming and going.
Then in the late 80's, changes started to come about to what we have
somewhat today. The Points standings. This came to encourage members to
participate in the jackpots instead of the rodeo members taking all the
awards and not coming to the jackpots to help. Many different types of
standings would come and go that tried to bring in member participation.
Then the 90's came, this would see changes in the gender membership
finally allowing men into the association. Then a few years ago with many
of the amateur rodeos not being open to non-members the money division was
voted to be dropped. This was around the same time the 4-D's begun to
surface. For some it was the beginning of a new generation.
TSBRA has gone through many changes some for the better some for the
worse. There have been years when we wondered if we would have a next
year. However, as usual we pulled through. Many tears and much sweat have
been through this association to give you what we have today. We have had
some wonderful members in the past that are no longer with us who would be
proud of what we have made TSBRA today. I hope you enjoy it as much as the
rest of us have. |
