Until such questions are answered, AVMA said it “could not consider endorsing this concept at this time.” Stock & Land (Australia)
Illinois state Rep. Jim Sacia, R-Pecatonica, is pushing for the repeal of a statewide ban on the commercial slaughter of horses for human consumption. Sacia, who has attempted to get the ban repealed in the past, said he understands that horse slaughter is an emotional issue but wants people to “accept the fact that what I am trying to do is to give horses a humane end of life.” FoxNews.com
A push by veterinarians to create a Kentucky Equine Health and Welfare Board is aimed at helping to forge care standards and collect more reliable statistics about the state’s horse population. “We need to face the grim side of our moral and ethical obligations to horses,” said an equine veterinarian and a founding member of the Ky.-based Equine Health and Welfare Alliance.
